Exhibitions
➡ Rico Puhlmann

Puhlmann (1934–1996) started out as a successful child actor in Germany. Later, he moved into fashion, first as an illustrator and then as a top photographer. He became known for cover shoots and editorials in big-name fashion magazines. His work took him from Berlin to New York, until a plane crash ended his life.
For over 40 years, his photos showed how fashion changed across decades and places. He captured styles from post-war Berlin to the bold looks of 1970s New York. His photos also reflected changes in beauty, modeling, and how gender was seen. Puhlmann showed how fashion often left out different kinds of beauty and people. He revealed the hidden choices that decide what looks end up in magazines. His work helps us see fashion not just as clothes, but as culture and power.
- Runtime: Fri, 27/06/2025 to Sun, 15/02/2026
- Price: €12.00
- Reduced price: €6.00
➡ Vamos a la playa: Holidays Under Franco
After Franco won the Spanish Civil War (1936–39), Spain’s beaches became busy again. The regime pushed tourism to grow the economy and also spread a fake good image. To visitors, Spain looked like a sunny, happy place full of fun and culture. But behind the scenes, many people still faced fear, control, and strict rules.
Tourists went home sharing happy photos and stories, hiding the truth without knowing it. Can someone on vacation really see what life is like under a dictatorship? That’s the big question eight artists explore in this eye-opening art exhibition. They use personal memories of family trips to Spain to dig into the past. Their art helps us think about how travel, memory, and truth are all linked. This show is part of the MEK’s 21st European Culture Days, focused on Catalonia. It’s made with Bòlit – Centre d’Art Contemporani and Museu de l’Empordà in Spain.
Runtime: Sun, 15/06/2025 to Sun, 07/12/2025
Takes place at: Museum Europäischer Kulturen
